west end tradition

Historic preservation and design innovation collide for success at this Aspen, Colorado residence. This urban retreat, protected by the City of Aspen’s historic preservation ordinance, sits on the edge of the urban core in Aspen’s historic district known as the West End.

A demanding program and social calendar are clearly articulated by the family and the program elements are strategically arranged to achieve a landscape experience for both family and guests. Paving details are highly refined and are interchanged for both walking and seating surfaces. Custom cushions and sustainably harvested hardwood seat-rails combine to create comfort for lounging and dining. Plants are assembled in rising layers of green and burgundy and mature to complement the colors of the home. The landscape evolves in sync with the family as Bluegreen remains engaged in refining this historic landscape through time.

This project is featured in the Fall 2014 issue of Garden Design magazine.  It was awarded a 2013 Honor Award from the Colorado Chapter of the ASLA and a 2015 Architizer A+ Private Garden Finalist Award.
